MATILDE (she/they) is an artist, poet & performance-maker of Italian and Slavic descent.
Their practice expands across experimental live work, theatre & moving image, writing, text-based artworks and immersive installations. Rooted in storytelling, her art investigates language, moving energies—the invisible manifesting itself—identity & metamorphosis, archetypes, systems of belief, natural forces, spirituality and rituals, sexuality and power dynamics.
Latest art commissions include: Castello di Rivoli, Turin (IT); MUDAM - Museum of Contemporary Art, Luxembourg (LUX); Nicoletta Fiorucci Foundation (UK); Swiss Institute, New York (USA). Her words are published by Cheerio Publishing, Montez Press, Mousse Publishing & les presses du réel; the Italian Pavilion at the 58th Venice Biennale; Towner Gallery; MIT List Visual Arts; i-D Magazine Italy; L’Uomo Vogue.
As an actor, she has performed at the Almeida Theatre and Young Vic Theatre in London (UK) and Teatro Lirico Giorgio Gaber (Milan, IT) as well as taking part in indie films. Matilde is a member of the Young Vic Theatre Creators Circle and of WFTV - Women in Film & TV and is a two-time recipient of the DYCP Grant by Arts Council England for her performance-making and creative direction.
