Zoë Marden is an artist, filmmaker and organiser living between Hong Kong and London. She graduated from the Royal College of Art with a Performance and Moving Image Masters. Her work plays with the voice and with
movement, with the intention of activating desire and vulnerability through soundscapes, performance, video and installations. She creates alternate worlds and speculative futures that aim to expand the constraints of gender, sexuality and queerness.
A large part of her identity as an artist is centred on the organisation of performance events and the creation of safe spaces that build and expand queer communities, within the context of London and Hong Kong. She has been part ofthe CAMPerVAN collective since 2016 which has been an important part of London’s queer performance scene. It is amodified camper van with a fold out stage that acts as a nomadic queer performance platform bringing performance art, film screening, panel discussion and workshops into the public realm.
She has also developed long-term collaborations with fashion designers ASAI and Sinead O’Dwyer. She worked with ASAI for her degree show project at The Royal College of Art where they developed bespoke designs for the performance for the opening night. They also worked on a project that took place in Hong Kong in 2019 for a performance during Art Basel. Her collaboration with Sinead began in 2018 with a commission by Melissa where Zoe wore one of Sinead’s one-off silicone sculptural garment and more recently for a sound performance that took place during Zoe’s Solo Show HADAL ZONE at Roman Road gallery in 2023. She has also collaborated with designer Osman in which she has walked in many of his shows as well as co-directed a film for his feb 2020 collection.
